Brief History

The PUP Samahan ng mga Mag-aaral ng Kasaysayan (PUPSMK) was born in 2007 during the presidency of Mr. Ferdinand Pol Martin when it resumed the defunct PUP History Society (PUPHS) and PUP Students’ Historical Society (PUPSHS), its respective predecessors. The organization began to seek accreditation from the Commission on Students’ Organizations (COSOA) and the National Historical Institute (NHI; now a Commission). During the term of its succeeding president Mr. Ali Balao II, PUPSMK became the partner of the Department in realizing its activities. When Mr. Melchor Pelleja became president in 2009, PUPSMK launched its first leadership training with the view of inculcating the spirit of camaraderie, service and discipline among its members. In 2010, Mr. Jerome Permejo, PUPSMK became more active in doing activities. Henceforth, it launched the second series of its leadership training, it organized the First Gawad Kalatas which was subsequently adopted by the Department of History as its national award-giving body, procured audio-visual equipment and was able to hold a 5-day tour in Ilocos Region.

PUPSMK has always been a constructive training ground for its officers and members. Besides its proactive vision to advance intellectual and physical competencies, it helps its members to hone their psychosocial values. Since its resumption in 2007, the PUPSMK has been insatiably assisting the Department in accomplishing its projects.

Logo

The Logo of PUPSMK is its official symbol. The color blue which serves as its background represents its stability and the unity of its members. The quill and the scroll signify the task of its members who will become historians or history teachers while the bolo and the kalasag with baybayin scripts in its upper part that reads Kasaysayan suggest their responsibility of taking care of history by serving as its vanguard. The laureate indicates the exalted contribution of history among the people in all ages. The golden sun at the background connotes the noble and illuminating role of history in nation building. The sun's four pillars stand for the four levels of AB History. The three golden stars in the outer circle represent Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, the three archipelagic groups that constitute the Philippines.
